SKEMA USA welcomes students for annual, immersive summer programme

Published on 16 August 2023

From late June to mid-July, 26 "preparatory class" students from France, Tahiti and Armenia traveled to Raleigh for an intensive, three-week programme with SKEMA Raleigh.

The goal? Improving their English and learning about US culture and history through classes, guest lectures, museum visits, weekend trips, cultural events, and more.

During the week, they had daily English workshops with French "prépa" teacher Emilie Desassis and North Carolina-based professor Judy Perry. The student group visited several key places in the Raleigh area, including NC State University, the James B. Hunt Library, the NC History Museum, the Wake County Courthouse, the State Legislative Building and more. They also participated in a half-day of volunteering at Habitat for Humanity.

The schedule included activities beyond Raleigh, and the students travelled to other nearby areas including Wilmington on the North Carolina coast, as well as Charlottesville, Virginia and Washington, D.C. where they visited museums and historical places, such as the downtown areas, the US Capitol in D.C., and the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

One of the highlights of the trip was attending the Durham Bulls baseball game, which took place on the 4th of July (national US holiday) and was followed by impressive fireworks above the stadium and downtown Durham area.

It ended with a farewell lunch on the SKEMA campus, where traditional North Carolina barbeque and sweet tea were served for the students, professors and SKEMA staff.

This summer programme is organised in partnership with APHEC ("Association des Professeurs des classes préparatoires économiques et commerciales").
